Create and use room templates

This article explains how to create and use room templates within the BriqSafe app to streamline registering and managing building areas during inspections or risk assessments.

Note

Required role: Engineer

Create Room Templates

Structures screen in the Residencial Serrano location allows managing building structures, with key actions including adding a new structure and editing or viewing details of existing ones via a dropdown menu.

Room templates help quickly add predefined room details to a structure’s floor plan during setup or field visits.

  1. Open the location and navigate to the Structures tab.

  2. In the Hierarchy or Cards view, select the structure and floor where you want to add rooms.

  3. Open the per-floor visual floor plan editor by clicking the floor.

  4. Use the room drawing tools to create rooms manually or use an AI scan to generate rooms from a floor plan photo:

    • Select AI Scan or Create with AI on an empty floor.
    • Take or choose a photo of the floor plan drawing.
    • Submit the photo to let the AI detect room boundaries.
    • Review and apply the detected rooms to create areas.
  5. Give each new room a Name, set its Type, and confirm the floor level.

  6. Note that each area inherits the facility type and control regime from its parent structure.

Important: Applying AI-generated rooms will replace existing rooms on that floor, which can disrupt linked assets. Prefer running the scan on empty floors or reassign assets before applying.

Using Room Templates During On-Site Visits

During inspections or risk assessments, you may discover new rooms that were not registered previously. You can add these rooms directly in the field app to update the building configuration permanently.

  1. In the mobile app, open the structure tree for the location.
  2. Within the floor’s visual editor, add a new area (room) to register the newly discovered room.
  3. Name the area and assign it a type and floor level.
  4. The room inherits the facility type and control regime from the parent structure; area-type-to-regime mappings no longer apply.
  5. Save the new area; this change is permanent and syncs to the web app for consultant review.

Note: Adding an area on-site is a permanent building configuration change, not a draft. Assets added on-site by an Inspector auto-approve, while those added by an Engineer remain pending approval.

Copying Existing Rooms as Templates

To avoid creating rooms from scratch, you can duplicate existing structures, floors, rooms, or assets directly in the mobile app, using them as templates for new entries.

  1. In the mobile structure tree, open the actions menu for the structure, floor, or room to copy.
  2. Tap Copy.
  3. Enter a new name for the copied item or accept the default (original name followed by “(copy)”).
  4. Confirm to create the duplicate, including contained floors, rooms, and assets if copying a structure.
  5. The app shows a Copied confirmation message.

Note: Copying creates a duplicate under the same parent without moving the original. Bulk copying works by selecting multiple items and tapping Copy in the selection bar.
