Sign off a visit with an engineer signature

This article explains how engineers can complete and sign off a visit using the BriqSafe mobile app, ensuring all job data is finalised and submitted for back-office review.

Note

Required role: Engineer

Sign Off a Visit on Mobile

Complete all work or mark jobs skipped, then sign off the visit to finalise job data and send it for back-office review.

  1. After working through the jobs at a Location, go to the job list within the active visit.
  2. Finish or skip the jobs as needed. You do not need to complete every job; any remaining pending jobs will be automatically skipped when you close the visit.
  3. Tap Close Visit to open the Close Visit screen.
  4. On the Sign Off tab, review the JOB SUMMARY section to see counts of Completed jobs, Unable to complete, and Not completed (pending) jobs.
  5. Sign off the visit by either drawing the engineer’s signature on the signature pad or ticking the confirmation checkbox labeled "I confirm that all jobs have been completed or skipped with valid reasons, and the information provided is accurate." These two options are mutually exclusive, so selecting one clears the other.
  6. Optionally, add comments in the COMMENT field to record observations or notes about the visit (limit 2000 characters). If all jobs are skipped or cancelled with no completed jobs, any comment entered will be treated as the recorded skip reason.
  7. Tap Close Visit and confirm by choosing Sign off when prompted with "Sign off this visit?"

Once signed off, the visit status changes to Completed and the data syncs to the web app. The visit is locked on the device, preventing any further edits to jobs on the worker’s device.

Understanding Job Statuses and Pending Jobs at Sign Off

You do not need to complete every job in the visit before signing off.

  • Jobs start as Open (to do).
  • Completed jobs are those finished by the engineer.
  • Jobs that cannot be done or are skipped are recorded as Skipped, with a reason.
  • During sign off, any jobs left pending are automatically skipped with an automatic reason and recorded for back-office review.
  • If all jobs end up skipped or cancelled with no completed jobs, the visit status becomes Skipped instead of Completed.

Only visits with the status Scheduled or In Progress can be signed off.

Capturing a Building Representative’s Counter-Signature

If your organisation requires a building representative’s counter-signature, the Close Visit screen will include a Representative tab next to Sign Off.

  1. Open the Representative tab.
  2. Enter the representative’s Name and Role.
  3. Have the representative draw their signature on the signature pad.
  4. Return to the Sign Off tab to complete the visit sign off as usual.

The Representative tab only appears if counter-signatures are enabled for your organisation. If required but missing, the visit is still signed off but flagged for review to address the missing signature.

A valid counter-signature requires all three: Name, Role, and drawn signature.

Adding Comments During Sign Off

The sign-off screen includes an optional COMMENT field where engineers can add observations or summaries about the visit. This information is included in the back-office record.

If a visit is recorded as Skipped due to no completed jobs, an entered comment replaces the default skip reason.

Important Notes and Common Pitfalls

  • The Close Visit submit button remains disabled until either a signature is drawn or the confirmation checkbox is ticked.
  • Signing off locks the visit on the field device, making jobs uneditable afterward.
  • If you open the Close Visit screen without selecting a specific visit on a Location with multiple active visits, the wrong visit may be closed. Always open the intended visit before signing off.
  • Closing a visit commits any untouched jobs as skipped automatically and this action cannot be undone.
