This article explains how to set up and perform Backflow prevention jobs within BriqSafe. It is intended for engineers who carry out on-site maintenance and compliance tasks related to backflow prevention activities.

Setting Up Backflow Prevention Jobs
Backflow prevention jobs are scheduled as part of the control scheme activities and can be recurring or one-time jobs linked to technical recommendations or cases. The scheduling tasks are typically handled by managers; however, engineers perform the jobs on-site.

- Backflow prevention jobs appear as distinct activity types within the control schema for a location and are scheduled during visit creation.
- One-time follow-up jobs can be created from approved technical recommendations related to backflow prevention. These follow-ups are scheduled as discrete jobs and visits.
- Scheduling can be done via the Scheduler using the "To plan" filter, selecting standalone activities or visit templates that group multiple activity types.
- When scheduling, assign the appropriate engineer, date, and (optionally) flag the visit for review after completion.
Performing Backflow Prevention Jobs
Backflow prevention work often involves several specific job types such as temperature (flushing) jobs, sample collection, chemical testing, and flushing timer jobs. These jobs are designed to capture compliance data accurately on-site.
Performing a Temperature (Flushing) Job

Measure water outlet temperature using a Bluetooth thermometer or manual entry.
- Open the temperature job assigned in your visit.
- Tap Connect Thermometer to pair a Bluetooth thermometer, or tap Fill Temperature Manually to enter readings by hand.
- If using a thermometer, tap Start Measurement and run the outlet. The live reading will stream and stop automatically once it stabilizes.
- Repeat measurements for each required reading.
- Attach an evidence photo if required.
- Tap Complete Job to finish.
Note: There is no pass/fail indication on this form. Any threshold breaches are evaluated server-side after completion, possibly triggering a case. If the thermometer drops out of range, previously taken readings remain, and you can reconnect or switch to manual entry.
Performing a Sample Collection Job
Collect a water sample and record its identifier for laboratory analysis.
- Open the sample collection job on-site.
- Fill in all form fields, including the sample bottle's identifier and collection method.
- Attach a photo of the sample label if required.
- Tap Complete Job.
Note: Sample bottle identifiers must be entered manually; there is no barcode scanning available for sample bottles. The app's scanner is used only for asset and device QR codes.
Performing a Chemical Test Job
Record on-site chemical test results such as chlorine or pH values as configured by your control scheme.
- Open the chemical test job assigned for the visit.
- On the Actions tab, enter each required parameter's value by typing or selecting from predefined options.
- Attach an evidence photo if required.
- Tap Complete Job after all required parameters are filled.
Note: The form does not indicate pass or fail; server-side evaluation decides on breaches after submission.
Performing a Flushing Timer Job
Run the water outlet for a prescribed duration using the in-app timer to meet compliance flushing requirements.
- Open the flushing timer job in the visit.
- Review the prescribed flush duration displayed.
- Open the outlet physically and tap the flush-timer start button.
- Wait for the countdown timer to complete; the Complete Job button remains disabled until then.
- Close the outlet and tap Complete Job.
Note: The timer cannot be bypassed or stopped early. If you leave the job form, the timer continues to run in the background.
Additional Job Types Related to Backflow Prevention
- Placing and linking monitoring devices: Scan the device QR code to link a new temperature monitoring device to an asset, selecting location and water type before placing it.
- Technical recommendation follow-ups: When a backflow issue generates follow-up jobs, perform corrective actions onsite, document outcomes with notes and photos, and complete the job to update the system.
Job Execution Screen Overview
Understanding the job screen helps navigate and complete tasks efficiently.
- Each job contains an Info tab showing location and job details, and an Actions tab with the activity-specific form.
- The form type is fixed by the job's activity and cannot be changed by the engineer.
- Complete the form and tap Complete Job to finish; completed jobs can be reopened while the visit is still active.
Handling Threshold Breaches and Cases
Threshold breaches from temperature or chemical test readings do not block job completion but may trigger cases automatically.
- Complete the job as normal even if readings are out of range.
- The system evaluates breaches server-side and creates cases when necessary.
- If a case is created, the app confirms with a message indicating the case has been sent for review.
Sign-Off After Backflow Prevention Jobs
After completing the required jobs, sign off the visit to submit data for back-office review.
- Finish or skip all jobs in the visit.
- Tap Close Visit on the job list.
- On the Sign Off tab, review the job summary and provide any optional comments about the visit.
- Draw your signature or tick the confirmation checkbox, then tap Close Visit.

Note: Jobs left unfinished are automatically skipped on sign-off with an automatic reason recorded. When the organisation requires a building representative's counter-signature, collect it via the 'Representative' tab during sign-off.
