Automate temperature measurements

This article explains how to set up and perform automated temperature measurements in BriqSafe using Bluetooth thermometers and connected sensors. It is intended for engineers performing on-site job activities.

Performing a Temperature Measurement Job

Take Measurement - Hot Tap screen allows users to input detailed hot water temperature data and comments for multiple pending measurement tasks, with an option to complete the job.

Use a temperature (flushing) job to record water temperature readings either with a Bluetooth thermometer or by manual entry during an on-site visit.

  1. Open the temperature job in the visit.
  2. To use a Bluetooth thermometer, tap Connect Thermometer to pair your device.
  3. If you prefer to enter readings manually, tap Fill Temperature Manually and type the values.
  4. With the thermometer connected, tap Start Measurement and run the water outlet. The live reading will stream and auto-stop when the temperature stabilises.
  5. Repeat for each required reading.
  6. If required, attach an evidence photo to the job.
  7. Tap Complete Job to finish.

Note: The job form will not show pass or fail status—even if a reading breaches threshold limits, the job can still be completed. Threshold breaches are evaluated server-side after completion and may generate a case for review.

If the thermometer loses signal during measurement, readings taken so far are preserved, and you can reconnect or switch to manual entry to continue.

If no stop conditions are defined for the activity type, the measurement uses default settings with a 2-minute timeout or manual reading.

Registering and Placing Sensors for Automated Monitoring

You can automate temperature readings by registering monitoring sensors and linking them to assets so their data fills scheduled jobs automatically.

Adding a FactoryLab Device

  1. Open IoT Devices and tap Add Device.
  2. On Select Device Source, choose FactoryLab, then tap Next.
  3. On Select Device Model, choose either ClipR or ClipR Flex.
  4. Complete the Add FactoryLab Device form and submit.

Note: Only FactoryLab devices can be registered; the Other Provider option is not available.

Placing a Device on an Asset

  1. From the scanner, scan the device QR code to open Place Device. Alternatively, from IoT Devices, tap Place Device.
  2. Select the Location and Asset to link the device to. If using QR codes, you may also scan the Asset QR code.
  3. Choose the water type monitored (Cold, Hot, Mixed, or Return pipe).
  4. Tap Place Device to confirm placement.

A confirmation toast will appear stating Device placed successfully! The device is now linked and begins monitoring.

Note: Placing an already placed device will relocate it. Bluetooth-type devices connect immediately, while LoRaWAN devices start reporting once their first uplink arrives.

Linking Devices and Mapping Sensors to Parameters

After placing a device, link it to an asset and map its sensor entities to BriqSafe parameters so readings feed jobs automatically.

  1. Open the device from the IoT Devices list.
  2. In the Linked To card, tap Link Device and select the target asset.
  3. The Sensor Mappings section will appear for an asset-linked device.
  4. Tap Map to link each device sensor entity (e.g., temperature sensor) to the corresponding BriqSafe compliance parameter.
  5. Set the staleness threshold (defaults to 24 hours) for each mapping.
  6. Save your changes.

Note: A device can link to only one target (asset, area, or system). Only mapped sensor entities auto-fill scheduled jobs; unmapped entities show readings but do not complete jobs.

How Sensor Readings Automate Job Completion

Once a device is linked and mapped, its fresh readings automatically fill and complete scheduled temperature measurement jobs without manual input.

  1. When a scheduled job is Pending or In Progress and requests a parameter monitored by a sensor, a fresh reading within the staleness window fills that parameter.
  2. If all required parameters are filled, the job status becomes Completed.
  3. If only some parameters are filled, the job remains In Progress.
  4. If no parameters have fresh readings, the job stays Pending.

The recorded value, unit, and timestamp of each sensor reading become the provenance for the job data.

Note: Job statuses reflect progress but do not indicate compliance; whether readings breach thresholds is evaluated separately and managed server-side.

Reviewing Auto-Completed Jobs

You can verify outcomes of sensor-completed jobs by reviewing the job records in the Location’s Jobs tab.

  1. Open the completed job.
  2. Check the parameter values—they will show sensor-sourced readings with value, unit, and timestamp.
  3. The provenance confirms these values came from the sensor pipeline, not manual entry.

Working Offline

BriqSafe supports working offline for temperature measurement jobs and device pairing.

  1. Open the visit while online to cache data.
  2. When offline, all entry points and forms remain functional.
  3. Bluetooth thermometer connection and flushing timers work device-to-device locally.
  4. Readings, photos, and status changes queue locally and sync automatically when back online.

Note: Opening the visit while online is crucial for offline use; otherwise, cached job data may be incomplete.

Completing Jobs with Breaching Readings

A job can be completed regardless of whether temperature readings breach thresholds.

  1. Complete the job as usual in the app.
  2. The server evaluates breaches after completion.
  3. If escalation is needed, the app confirms case creation with the message: Job completed. A case was created for review.

Note: No pass/fail status appears on the job form, so threshold breaches may not be visible on-site. Offline completions sync and reflect breach cases later.
